Each log file has configurable settings, including retention periods, status toggles, and sync intervals, ensuring that administrators can customize log management to meet their organizational needs.


Access Log Settings

To access the Log Settings:

keycap: 1 Navigate to the Administration section of Jira.

keycap: 2 Click on Manage apps in the top navigation bar.

File

Lists
the name of each log file. All files that are present on at least one node are listed. These files are located in the local home log files directory.

Retention period

The Retention Period defines how long the log file is entry is stored before it is automatically deleted. The default retention period for all logs is 7 days. This setting ensures that only recent logs are retained, helping to maintain system performance. However, we store the data separately and do not delete the original logs based on time. Only the redundant data storage is cleaned up during this process.

Status

The Status toggle allows administrators to enable or disable the generation of a specific log filesyncing to the database and displaying in the Log Browser:

  • Enabled (Green Toggle): The log file is actively being generated and recorded.
  • Disabled (Gray Toggle): The log file is not being generated. Disabling unnecessary logs can help increase performance, but the log files are still being generated. Only the synchronization to the database is halted when the status is set to inactive.

Sync status

By clicking the icon to the left of the status toggle, you can view an overview of the sync status. In the case of a manual sync, you can also initiate the sync process directly from this menu.

The Sync status The Sync Status indicates whether the most recent sync was successful: 

  • Awaiting sync: The sync is in progress. 
  • Sync completed: Indicates that the last sync was successful.
  • Sync in progress: Shows that a sync is currently happening.
  • Sync failed: Indicates an issue with the syncing process.
  • To be synced: – Synchronization must be started manually 

Sync interval

The Sync Interval setting determines how frequently the log files are synchronized. The options available in this dropdown menu are:  Daily,   Hourly,   Auto (default),  ManualManual – Auto means syncing occurs minimum every minute.
