For the rule to execute, the conditions configured for a chosen trigger must be met.

Field Changed Event

The Field Changed Event Trigger executes a rule when the specified field is updated, and the changes correspond with the associated options.

The field to be evaluated can be chosen from most system and custom fields in the Jira instance. Start typing the field name for quicker selection.         

Depending on the field type, the trigger has 3 or 4 "Changed to" configuration options as depicted in the following screenshot.

Field

Select the field that should be checked for changes.

Select the type of field change:

  • Any value will start execution of the Rule following any changes to the field
  • Selected value used with a checkbox or multi-select list field will check if the field contains the selected value. 
    Other values will not be evaluated.
  • No value - field cleared will only execute if the field was cleared.
  • Value returned by parsed expression is the most advanced option, providing the ability to evaluate field content using the Automation Toolbox Expression Parser. Please view the documentation for usage examples.

Scheduled Rule

The Scheduled Rule trigger will start execution of the rule whenever the configured schedule options are met.

There are a number of scheduling options to choose from or you can define your own custom schedule using a Cron Expression. 

Scheduled rules can be used for any number of regular maintenance, escalation or one off "fix it" jobs.

Schedule

Select the interval in which the rule should be executed, the time/day options differ depending on the selected interval. It can be chosen from the following options:

  • Daily
  • Days per Week
  • Days per Month
  • Advanced, a Cron Expression has to be entered when this option is selected. Learn more about Cron Expressions.
